Presbyterian Women
The original Presbyterian Women's symbol, designed by Sarah Abbott in 1988, was updated in 1999 to carry the organization into the twenty-first century. The cleaner lines and sharper image strengthen the original design while retaining its ability to visually express the Presbyterian Women purpose.

Some Meanings Found in the PW Symbol

Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ.

Forgiven and freed by grace through faith, the central figure stands in praise.

And empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves.

Rooted in faith, the trio of women emerge. The outline of the central figure forms a cross. We are Presbyterian women, engrafted in Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit. It is no longer we who live, but Christ who lives in us.

To nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study.

The right figure holds a book to guide her reading, studying, praying, or meditating. to support the mission of the church worldwide
The left figure reaches out to care for others, as she shares, nurtures, and heals. The circle represents the church worldwide where women offer their gifts and talents in the midst of the global community.

To work for justice and peace.

The uplifted arms of the central figure reach out to embrace a just peace for the world. The relationship between the three figures depicts lives of wholeness rather than turmoil.

And to build an inclusive, caring, community of women.

The three women have no distinct features and represent all women. The shapes surrounding them express energy, strength, and openness. That strengthens the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)Our name, Presbyterian Women, ties us to our denomination. The Bible resembles the Bible depicted in the PC(USA) seal.

And witnesses to the promise of God's Kingdom.

Guided by our purpose, we witness to the reality of God's realm.

Grace Presbyterian Women
What a wonderful year we have had. In April our PW Officers were installed. They are:

Moderator: Jan Evans
Vice Moderator: Wendi Glenn
Secretary: Sandra Gillispie
Treasurer: Susan Lawson
Historian: Dot Hathaway
Circle Leaders: Virginia Martin, Becky Karnes, Miree Pomering, Sara Lawson and Sandy Kurhli.

We have ad a good Bible Study at our Circle meetings each month about the Perspectives on Genesis and those who lived during that era. We have had several new Circle members who joined September.
Our big project this year was the publishing of our cook book. A Taste of Grace using numerous recipes from our church members and friends. Polly Schrimper was the chairperson and did a wonderful job. The profits from the selling of our cook book are going to our church building fund.
The PW enjoyed furnishing new items for our church kitchen through a Circle wide Kitchen Shower. We enjoyed a Christmas Cookie Exchange, gift exchange plus the revealing of our Secret Pals at our December gathering.
A big thank you to Sara Lawson and her Circle (#4) for the Christmas in July toy collection which enabled us to supply many gifts to seven families. We also provided food baskets for 2 families at Thanksgiving and 7 families at Christmas.
Linda Foster and Nancy Ford were our two recipients of the Honorary Lifetime awards.
Members of our PW provided the food for the reception following our Joy Gift children’s program.
Mildred Culverhouse (Circle # 1) was asked by the Church Wide Triune of PW to prepare a block of patchwork quilt embroidering the name of the Synod of Living Waters to represent the Presbytery of the Mid-South to be displayed at the Churchwide gathering of PW in Louisville, KY this past July. These patchwork squares were made into small blankets to be given to all women in the third world countries. Mildred pieced and quilted the two quilts hanging on the wall at the lodge at Pinecrest. These quilt pieces were cut out by Dot Hathaway (our Historian) using the Dresden Design. As we do every year our members mailed over 400 Christmas cards to orphanages in Brazil, Peru, Columbia and Mexico. We also sent Valentines to patients at the VA Hospital here in Memphis.

Presbyterian Women ask: WHERE DOES MY MONEY GO?

Money given at your Circle meetings:

Pledges/dues - this money goes to the basic operating budget of our PW at Grace. It includes benevolence giving. Our annual budget shows how we spend this money. Our PW treasurer received from the circles month.

Least Coin - The Fellowship of the Least Coin is an international benevolence started in 1956 in India. Women of all countries give their ãleast coinsä ( in our case, pennies) to represent their prayers for PEACE and reconciliation among all peoples. Our PW treasurer receives this money from the circles in June each year and it is eventually forwarded on to PW - PCUSA.

Milk Fund - our quarters go to the Cynthia Milk Fund an 89-year old local charity which provides milk and formula for needy babies and for the elderly. They work with LeBonheur and the Health De pt. and special needs recipients. The commercial Appeal pays all administrative cost of this fund. Our PW treasurer receives this money from the circles in June.

Optional money that your circle may take up:

Paper Products - this goes to the Memphis Family Shelter to buy supplies that they need.

Sunshine/Love Offering - money for your own circle to use as desired perhaps to send flowers or cards to fellow circle members, or other expenses.

Heifer Project - goes to provide people in other countries with animals for sustenance.

Anything else - your circle may choose projects and benevolences they wish to support. This is decided at the circle level.

Money that the PW asks for periodically:

Birthday Offering - Started in 1922, the women of PCUS were asked to give one penny for each year of their lives. This money is received in the spring as a special offering. The money is eventually sent to PW - PCUSA to use for worldwide missions emphasizing women and children.

Thank Offering - started in 1888. the women of UPC were asked to thank God by giving above their normal pledge. This money is received in the fall as a special offering. The money is eventually sent to the PW - PCUSA to use for worldwide medical missions and hospitals and other grants.
