CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: Cheering crowds sang their praises as Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem to fulfill the ancient prophecy.
People: “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.”
Leader: With palms and branches and with their clothes cast on the road to make a pathway, the people sang their joyous acclamation.
People: Ride on, Jesus. Ride through the crowds. Ride on to anguish. Ride on to betrayal. Ride on to the cross.
Leader: “Hosanna to the Son of David!”
People: “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.”

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Lord, it is the beginning of the week of great adventure and sacrifice. We sense our need for you. You ask us to read your Word. We start by reading the Bible, but then get busy and put it aside. We begin to pray to you and then the phone rings, and we are interrupted again. Sometimes we meditate in quiet solitude, only to find our minds wander and then on goes the TV. Lord, speak to us through your Word. Let it penetrate our minds and hearts. Speak to us and let us hear your call. Guide us during this special week so we may understand Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. Amen.
